My parents received a new puppy today…a baby sheltie! She's BEAUTIFUL! So shy and kind, gentle and well-mannered. She has no name yet, so stay tuned for much more about her and some heart-melting photos!

A JOLLY Christmas to ALL!

Today's St. Vincent Friday's musing: "Just the Same but Brand New." The opening is the band tuning up…which is a beautiful sound in itself!

Merry Christmas Eve!

It's blizzarding outside. I'm inside watching Rain Man in bed.

SIGH x 123987234987

THE LAST 48 HOURS HAVE BEEN MAYHEM. On Friday evening—the calm before the storm—I looked through my planner toward the weekend. Two hours to myself.

So it went: Morning/afternoon grocery shift, 15 minutes to get to my clients' site for an overnight, then spending a solid 24 hours on the clock with them. I figured being on duty would be beneficial to my sleep schedule: They'd be in bed early, I'd be in bed early, everyone would be rested. Nada. Sleep at 3:30am…awakened at 6.

Released from the 24-hour shift, I had an hour and a half to clean myself up before pulling a closing shift at the g-store.

I showered. I saw my bed. I thought, "I'm going to take a little cat nap before work." I overslept.

And made it to work 20 minutes late. But, it was worth it. I'm exhausted. Thirty-six of the last 38 hours I've been clocked in.

TOMORROW is a "me" day! No work. Just shopping and preparing for Christmas and my upcoming trip (which I can't stop talking or thinking about), cleaning and tying up other loose ends. I might sleep in and get a nice coffee in the morning and run errands. That's my favorite kind of busy day!

I'm disappointed in myself for not accomplishing half or even a few of the things I had planned for this month—starting new projects, making things, photographing, cooking, baking, going out, etc. I'm searching for the time to find relaxation. There's always next year or tomorrow and not everything is disheartening. I had an excellent school semester that I worked to achieve. With those months and projects and classes now aside, I can conquer other things!

I hope everyone is wonderful. I miss familiar people and traditions. I really am longing for warmth right now—inside and out.

Take care, be well

I'M COMING FOR YOU SOON!!!

A global lifestyle brand driven by nearly 100 years of eyewear expertise, Sol Moscot's "rounder, nerdier" number has served as the calling card for generations of thoughtful, free-spirited intellectual and artistes—from Buddy Holly and Truman Capote to Johnny Depp.

If I could be anywhere right now, I'd be among this scene—laying in the field, reveling in sunshine, forgetting time…

…or I'd be in California sunshine—which I will be, in two weeks!!

Get on your Boots

I had a sense that a pair of boots I found at the thrift store tonight were of good quality, so I went with my gut and bought them—for $10. They weren't my size, but they were soft, beautiful leather and stamped on the bottom, "Handmade in Italy." I just had a feeling, and I knew I could pawn them off on someone.

I decided that my sister Heidi was a perfect candidate. She tried the boots on and they fit like a charm, and I was pleased to have found them feet to stop around. Out of curiosity, Heidi and I googled the boot maker to find the ballpark of what the boots were worth.

The boots I bought for $10 at a thrift store are sold at Neiman Marcus. For about $1000.

Heidi left my house in them, $500 on each foot. She looks so chic! Merry Christmas, sis!

The most incredibly lovely shoes from penelope and coco — if I could, I would make these a wardrobe staple!

I wish I even kind of had the money to buy these.

Just White.

I'M SUPER TIRED AND STRESSED RIGHT NOW, so this is all I really want to see: White. Just white. White to clear my mind!

I found these images from one hip site, Apartment Therapy. If Apartment Therapy where actually a home, I would want to live there. I would even live on their website. Okay. Not.

Here is to everything being "all white"…

How to: Care for Introverts

This list is quite snarky, but the introvert inside of me can't help but agree with it. All of it.

AfroChic

A FEW MONTHS BACK, C was telling me that he was doing a product shoot for a California designer called AfroChic. "She has the coolest business cards I've ever seen," he told me, then sent me a picture of one. They were darn cool.

Today, amidst getting sucked into the bloggosphere (as usual), a link led to a link that led to another link that led me to…AfroChic! And suddenly the word felt so small.

As it turns out, AfroChic's pillows have been popping up on "Gift guides" and "Wish lists" on blogs blogwide. Their groovy pillows and patterns have me pretty smitten. I want their wallpapers in my life.

Shortcuts

Here's a start to a holiday wish list. This:

The keyboard shortcut skin from Photojojo would make my life a dream.

Come to think of it, I want everything in the Photojojo store…except the Camera Lens Mug, which I already own! (Thanks, Adam!)

But really. How nerd-tastic is this?

I REALLY THOUGHT I'D DREAD THE WINTER. Now that it's here—unavoidably so—I really don't much mind. Yesterday morning I walked out the door and began the trail to class. The first thing I noticed was an impeccable calmness that had overtaken my surroundings. There was not a sound, no cars screeching on the streets, no doors opening or closing, no sirens or horns. Only a light snowfall that extended the whiteness of the earth; an awakening. For two and a half blocks, I meditated in frost-coated silence.

Of Heidi

HEIDI IS MY SISTER—my big, little sister with skinny bird legs, one bearing a scar of a childhood day together. Heidi is tough as stone and quick with words, sarcastic to a "t," witty and sharp. She knows what she wants and works until she gets it.

When you put Heidi and I together, she becomes the voice of reason that brings me down from the clouds and back to reality. She's my balance: logical, analytical, with sincere brevity. She says what I don't want to admit, always watches her watch, always punctual, always business. She has a great contagious laugh which she gets from our mother, along with nearly everything else (except her cooking "skills"—those were aptly learned, definitely not genetic). She sets herself up for success.

If I had to choose a little sister, it would be Heidi —otherwise we'd have never met. We have nothing in common but our parents and perhaps the same nose, sharing the same story growing up, and the same bath water. She has taught me a few lessons and I look up to her—well, I have to. She's taller than me.

Early Risings

TODAY IS OFF TO A GREAT START—I spent the morning at my clients' apartment helping them get ready for work. As much as I admit to not being a morning person, I very much enjoy being a part of their routine. They add the jet pack I need to boost my day!

I grabbed coffee after my shift, and it was only 9am. Nine! And to think of everything I'd already accomplished. Normally before nine I sleep and sometimes get myself ready for the day. When I got home I felt motivated to do the things I helped with earlier in the morning: Make my bed, put my clothes away, eat a healthy breakfast, and be thankful for my wellness.

Now at the library, I'm giddy about the discovery of a landmine of design books on the "New Books" shelf. I checked out three and I'm looking forward to devouring them when I get off work tonight…

The books I checked out…

& a lovely day to all —

I love simple things like this. So much clever!

Helmut Smits is an idea machine—or "multidisciplinary visual artist"—based in Rotterdam, Netherlands (which makes sense why I like it). I'm uncertain how I can across them, but the approach to art is delightful. Here are a few samples of their work, and be sure to mosey on over to their site to check out the rest!
